In an evening of well-overdue celebration, the marketing industry came together to recognise the Next Level marketing initiatives that won big at the 2020 TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards.
On Tuesday night, NZ Marketing magazine in partnership with the Marketing Association presented awards in 28 categories across sector, excellence and individual divisions at the 2020 TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards. A packed Cordis Hotel in Auckland – themed to the night with bold colours and brave performances – saw marketing’s whose who come together to celebrate the successes of some truly Next Level marketing initiatives.
The Awards – now in its 29th year – centred around a celebration of those marketers who have been bold, brave and not afraid to break the mould. Of marketing that has dared to be different, excelled in creative and strategic thinking and most of all, been successful in execution, taking both brand and marketing to the Next Level. A level achieved by all the winners on the night.
Taking home the Supreme Award as well as Financial/Banking Sector Award was Sharesies for its ‘Shares Made Easy’ campaign, which the judges said: “Translated a business objective into great market engagement with differentiated positioning, effectively transforming the local market. Sharesies has increased accessibility, awareness and participation in investing – drawing in new audiences, through a well-considered marketing strategy leveraging a strong digital media campaign.”
Other big winners on the night were Annemarie Browne, Chief Marketing Officer of Lotto NZ and Liv Glazebrook, Brand Manager at J H Whittaker & Sons who took home the Marketer and Young Marketer of the Year Awards respectively.
“Annemarie has demonstrated to the judges that she is an exceptional marketing leader with the right skills and competencies, leading a solid high-performing marketing team. She is very generous with her time and energy across the marketing community and would make a wonderful role model for any young marketer to aspire to,” the judges said of Browne’s win.

Of Glazebrook, the judges said: “Liv is a passionate marketer who is able to clearly articulate across marketing performance from creative and NPD to sales and financials. She brings innovation and new thinking to the table, is a strong brand ambassador and good fit for Whitaker’s.”

The night also recognised marketing legend, Phillip Mills of Les Mills International who was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame for his career-long success in brand and communications strategy at Les Mills.
“More than building neatly designed and aligned creative messaging, this year we sought out marketing initiatives that are pioneering, and marketers who are taking things to the Next Level through innovative thinking and out-of-the-box solutions. I think that all of our winners exemplify these qualities, and collectively demonstrate that New Zealand marketing is well-placed to take on any challenges,” says David Nothling-Demmer, Editor of NZ Marketing.
John Miles, CEO of the Marketing Association says that his organisation loves supporting and celebrating the success of New Zealand’s marketers’, and that the TVZN-NZ Marketing Awards is the pinnacle of this celebration. “We have been witness to that tonight and those who have created marketing stories of strategic brilliance, creative excellence and impressive commercial results,” Miles said.
“Of course, we can’t run these awards without the support of our judges, including Convenor of Judges Michael Friedberg. The vast knowledge and experience brought to the judging process by this outstanding panel of the country’s leading marketing professionals and business leaders underpins the integrity of these awards,” he added.
