In the June-August 2026 issue of NZ Marketing magazine, we asked agency founders to tell us the story behind why they started their agency, their favourite thing, what they’ve learned and their best advice.

Saypient Limited
- Founder: Ruth Bluck
- Year founded: 2022
Tell us the story behind founding your agency.
Saypient really came into existence because I could see the media environment getting harder to navigate.
Business leaders are under increasing pressure to grow, defend market share, manage budgets and prove performance while the noise around them keeps getting louder. Most know what they should be doing with marketing and media, but with stretched teams, constantly changing channels and increased commercial pressure, it is hard to make it happen with the discipline and consistency required.
That is where I knew Saypient could genuinely help. I know media like the back of my hand because I have lived its evolution, from traditional channels through to today’s integrated, fragmented landscape.
Saypient is unashamedly boutique, so clients deal directly with senior strategic thinking, without layers of account management. Saypient was built to give ambitious businesses sharper answers, stronger more creative negotiation, better balance and greater confidence in every media decision.

What’s your favourite thing about running your own agency?
The thing I love most is that, at this stage of my career, sapience is the advantage, the experience, judgment and clarity to work through complexity with clients and know which recommendations will genuinely move the needle.
Perhaps best of all, I get to work with the businesses and people where I know our thinking can genuinely make a difference.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned?
The most important thing…is three things
- Get your house in order: the business strategy must be clear from the top.
- Understand your market, understand how media works, integrated and autonomously. What role it will play.
- SOV, sustainability and consistency matters. Get your messaging right and show up, repeat it for longer than you think, the journey to greatness is long and hard.
We developed The Saypient 5-step media method, a clear planning process that brings discipline, insight and accountability to all our clients plans.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received or given out?
“Just relax and let it happen.” That was my best friend giving me boyfriend advice 36 years ago.
